Johnny Cash looked down from above, with those warm eyes and weathered looks. From a poster on the wall, it was if the big man’s image brooded over the tiny frame of Cara Dillon as she graced the stage of the Gibson Guitar Studio, London. Cash had recognised the cultural links between the US and Ireland, and would’ve loved Cara’s wistful sounds. Quite fittingly, she started with Johnny, Lovely Johnny from her latest recording, Hill Of Thieves. Cara was launching the album with this showcase gig at Gibson’s UK base. She was following in the wake of mainstream acts Paul Weller, Kaiser Chiefs and Snow Patrol – who’d all performed at this bright, airy, yet intimate venue, just off Tottenham Court Road. That made Cara one of the few folk artists to appear at this rock guitar ‘temple’.
